Ford Racing is celebrating its heritage at the 2026 SEMA Show with the R125 Mustang, a modified 1966 Fastback that combines classic styling with modern performance components.
Built around Ford Racing Parts, the R125 demonstrates how contemporary hardware can update a vintage Mustang while preserving its original character.
Under the hood is a 347-cubic-inch V8 crate engine producing 360 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. It uses a Ford Racing Boss block, aluminum cylinder heads and Edelbrock Pro-Flo electronic fuel injection.
Power is delivered through a Tremec TKX-600 five-speed manual transmission, selected for its compact packaging, improved shift quality and durability compared with the previous TKO gearbox.
The car also showcases Ford Racing Parts valve covers with interchangeable top designs, captured O-ring seals and integrated spark plug wire looms.
The R125 name commemorates 125 years since Henry Ford drove his Sweepstakes race car to victory over Alexander Winton in 1901, a milestone that helped establish Ford's engineering reputation.
Rather than presenting the Fastback simply as a restored collectible, Ford intends the R125 to demonstrate how enthusiasts can use modern components to personalize classic vehicles.
It's a reminder that some cars never really go out of style. They just get better parts catalogs.
