Tesla to Wind Down Cybertruck Production in Texas in 2027
It was the truck that rabid Tesla owners believed would unseat the Ford F-150 as the most popular truck in America. On the other hand, it was often compared to a middle school metal shop project gone wrong. However you feel about it, Tesla is winding down Cybertruck production at its Texas plant.

On X (aka Twitter) today, CEO Elon Musk announced that Tesla will “be winding down” production in mid-2027.
Musk hasn't ruled out Cybertruck production at another facility, though given its sales performance, that seems improbable.
Produced at the EV maker’s Austin, Texas plant, hopes were high for the doorstop-shaped truck. It ended up being more of a meme than a sales success. Maybe it was the recalls. Perhaps it was the compromised utility. Could be the polarizing stainless steel sheetmetal. A sobering reminder that even with eye-watering pre-orders (some estimates have it at 2,000,000), it never gained traction in the marketplace.

Musk predicted annual sales would run 250,000. According to Cox Automotive, U.S. sales have totaled around 71,000 since production began. And sales have dropped every year since the CT hit showrooms in late 2023. And many of those trucks went to SpaceX.
So if you simply must have a vehicle with a high-maintenance stainless steel skin, small bed, and an image problem on par with Russell Brand, hurry on down to the closest Tesla store and snag yours before the Texas line starts pumping out Cybercabs.
